[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”10992″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our sweet Danny on October 24. When he first came to us on a rainy day at the end of April, he was wobbly, blind, very underweight, and had poor muscle tone. Despite all this, it was agreed that, if he had any chance, it was at A Horse Tale. We would give him the best care we could to help him. He came to us lost and scared. We all showed him that it was ok to be old, ok not to see well, ok not to be perfect. He was one of us. Over the summer, we saw Danny put on good weight, muscle had returned, and his coat was a shimmering, auburn brown. His weight and demeanour flourished through the loving care of our volunteers. He greeted everyone he met warmly and…

Courage, Strength, Devotion, LoveThese are some pretty strong words but they represent a very strong soul.On August 8, our dear Balou said farewell to everyone who he cared deeply about, both two and four-legged friends. Before arriving at AHT, life for Balou started as many large horses do, working. We are told that Balou (or Bill, as he was known) worked in the logging industry, pulling large fallen trees from the forest. Always eager to keep working, eating as much as four full bales of hay per day and weighing close to 2600 pounds, he would be paired up with the strongest equal they had. He was a sight to behold. Bill later moved into doing wagon rides, where again he was paired with a companion. Just before arriving at AHT, Bill was renamed to Balou and was tried as a carriage horse in Montreal. As these are single horse carriages, he didn’t do so…

On the evening of Wednesday, March 7 th , 2018 at the age of 31, our beautiful Palomino Quarter Horse, Tara Belle, stepped over the rainbow bridge to join all our AHT friends who have gone before her. She was calm, trusting and felt neither stress nor pain throughout. Tara Belle taught us so much about how horses can react to sudden change and how they can learn to trust despite it. AHT would like to thank all of our members for giving her the best care and endless unconditional love possible.  Saying good-bye is always so difficult. You will be missed Tara Belle.

At 6 PM Monday September 11th 2017, a sweet old boy nicknamed Lucky (aka Dickie) passed away, while the crickets were chirping and the sun was a golden glow. The 31 year old Welsh pony wasn’t with us for very long but we we gave him the best few weeks he could have.   AHT would like to thank all of our members for giving him the best care he could have received. Rest in Peace Sweet Lucky

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Rod Young Memorial Fund On August 28th 2017, longtime AHT and lifetime member Rod Young passed away. To say that Rod was a constant presence at the barn is a bit of an understatement. Rod was always at the barn: one moment fixing a fence or doing some wiring and the next moment hugging a horse or making someone smile.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”9729″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] To honour his wishes we have created the Rod Young Memorial Fund in his memory. This fund will be used for specific purchases in his name. Rod had always wanted this so we know that it would have made him happy to continue to be able to help AHT in his honour. [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] On Friday the 3rd of February, 2017 we had to say goodbye to our one and only Guinness the donkey. Looking back, we celebrate all of the things that made him so very unique and special to all of us at AHT… [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”9606″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center” onclick=”img_link_large”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]Guinness, first arrived at AHT on July 1st 2013, but initially no one knew his name and so a contest was held to give him one. The winner of course was “Guinness” –  coming in at 29%. The runner up was “Murphy” at 24% in case you were wondering. Prior to retiring at AHT, Guinness was a “guard donkey” in a cow field. A few years later (in 2015) AHT moved to a new location across the street from that very same cow field, and “Guinney” was reunited (sort of) with his cow friends. This was also around the same time that the cow…

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On December 1st, 2016 , just a few weeks shy of his 33rd birthday, Trooper passed away. And so we bid farewell to our special friend… Back in the spring of 2014 this sweet morgan horse settled in for his retirement at A Horse Tale when the farmers who’d had him could no longer afford to keep their farm. A calm and gentle horse, Trooper was a favorite of many members. Being a volunteer based group, means that some of our members come to us with little or no experience working with horses. Thanks to his gentle nature, Trooper became the “go-to” horse for our members to understand what it means to care for a horse. He was approachable. Trooper provided our new members an opportunity to gain confidence and feel comfortable around horses. In turn he got back love. As much as Trooper was loved by the people of AHT, he never really paired off with…

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] On June 15, after ongoing medical treatments over the last few months our gentle giant “Big” Jim sadly passed away.   Jim had been experiencing various medical issues since November 2015. In April 2016, things took a turn for the worse with several bouts of colic. He was paid numerous visits from our vet, and given constant care from our barn manager and members, but things didn’t improve. Thanks to the generosity of our members, Jim paid his first visit to St.Hyacinthe equine hospital in April of 2016. Jim spent almost 2 weeks there, possibly breaking the record for the number of visits during visiting hours, when he was finally able to come back home to A Horse Tale.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”8897″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”8890″ img_size=”large” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Jim arrived back to AHT’s barn. As per the hospital and his vet, he was under a strict diet, with constant watch and care via our barn manager and dedicated members. Even with all this…

It was with great sadness that A Horse Tale learned about the passing of the first horse that we adopted out, sweet, sweet Macho.   Macho was born in Alberta in 2004 and came to live with his first owner at 8 months old. He was his little girl’s prince and was very loved, but his family moved in 2013 and were unable to take him with them. It was at this time that Macho joined his good friend Buddy at AHT. Macho spent 1 year and 3 months in our care until October of 2014, when he became AHT ‘s first horse ever to be adopted out. His new “mom” became Jackie Maye. Jackie loved and cared for Macho tremendously and gave him his forever home. In early 2015 it was discovered he had Uveitis and by March 2015, he had lost one eye. Shortly, after the operation life improved for Macho, but in August 2015 his disease started attacking…

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] It is with great sadness that AHT said goodbye to Caesar, this past Thursday night, August 27, 2015. A retired caleche horse, Caesar arrived at AHT’s barn in the cold of winter 2015, with a form of rectal cancer.  This meant that we knew he’d have limited time with us and so we promised to give him as much love and caring that we could. Unfortunately, his cancer progressed to the point where it got the better of him, and we had to say goodbye. From the very first day he arrived he made an impact on us. That bittersweet day that he arrived was the very same day that we said goodbye to Bud. In fact, our AHT logo was inspired by this picture of Caesar and Bud passing in the snow. Although Caesar wasn’t with us for very long he made a huge impact on all of us, with his…
