My name is Amy and I’ve been a member of AHT Rescue since October 2016. I am a Highschool teacher and teach an alternative learning program called WOTP 1 (Work Oriented Training Program*).
My students are between the ages of 14-18 and attend classes three days a week, while completing a two day stage (internship) in our community. As I teach my wonderful students all day, we have developed a pretty special bond. When they return from their stage we share their experiences and stories, often over a cup of tea (yes, we have a tea station in our class!). At the beginning of the year they were curious as to what I got up to in their absence… I think they pictured me twiddling my thumbs while sitting at my desk anxiously awaiting their return. I started telling them about my Thursday dinner feeds at the barn; I began showing them weekly videos and photos of our horses up to their shenanigans. My students were curious as to why I volunteered my time. I explained that AHT Rescue is a sanctuary, not only for the horses, but for the volunteers as well. I decided to take five interested students who were completing in-school stages to the barn. I honestly did not know what to expect, but the result made my heart sing. I’ve decided that it is best to hear about our experience straight from the horse’s mouth, as they say.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”9918″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]
