Farewell Danny

Farewell Danny
[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”10992″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our sweet Danny on October 24.

When he first came to us on a rainy day at the end of April, he was wobbly, blind, very underweight, and had poor muscle tone. Despite all this, it was agreed that, if he had any chance, it was at A Horse Tale. We would give him the best care we could to help him. He came to us lost and scared. We all showed him that it was ok to be old, ok not to see well, ok not to be perfect. He was one of us.

Over the summer, we saw Danny put on good weight, muscle had returned, and his coat was a shimmering, auburn brown. His weight and demeanour flourished through the loving care of our volunteers. He greeted everyone he met warmly and made friends with Saari and Jack. This fall, he and Jack would go out to the meadow with the new girls, Maggie and Cheyenne. His innocence and peaceful nature were intoxicating. We had hoped that with a good diet and added muscle, his condition would improve but unfortunately Danny’s neurological issues progressed rapidly in his last weeks. Even while walking in the paddock or changing directions, Danny did not seem to have full control of his legs.

With great sadness, the decision was made to help him on his final journey. No longer would he be stressed about his surroundings because he was unable to see or scared about not being able to fully control his movements.

Danny was put to rest with his head held high, warm sun on his fur, and love in his heart.

Goodbye sweet boy. We will miss your curiosity and tenderness but, most of all, your willingness to love and be loved.

From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer’s gone, and all the flowers are dying
‘Tis you, ’tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer’s in the meadow
Or when the valley’s hushed and white with snow
‘Tis I’ll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.
