Remembering Bud

Remembering Bud

On January 12 2015, at 2 pm, we had to say a somber goodbye to a very precious horse on our farm. Bud, a nineteen year old Percheron, came to our farm on October 18, 2014 for some rest and relaxation after sustaining an injury to his hind leg.

When he arrived he was as unsure of us as we were of him, pulling us around with his head held high ensuring all those around him that he was indeed bigger than everyone else in our herd, breaking our fences and causing a havoc around every corner.

1However, as he settled into his new life his soul shined through more and more everyday. Although he always remained the big guy on the farm, we got to see the true Bud, gentle, peaceful, grateful, and kind.

As time passed, he learned to love his new life and family, even if he was only supposed to be on a retreat with us to heal. Unfortunately his original injury inspired a new injury in his front fetlock that we couldn’t fix. After treatments, investigations, vet consultations and a lot of hope, we finally decided that in the best interest of this beautiful boy we needed to let him rest. Even up to his last minute on this earth he inspired us and showed us that as scary as death is and as definite as it can be, it can also bring a sense of peace and relief.

We at, A Horse Tale, love you Bud and thank you for blessing us with a chance to feel such love and experience the calmness of your soul.
